PREPARING FOR SPRING!

Photos: Sophia Home

Yesterday was a busy day in the garden......with weeding, digging, clearing, sweeping and mulching the rose garden and the raised beds in my kitchen garden.  Jobs that need to be done before the marathon of seed sowing in the greenhouse that I look forward to each year.

Signs of life in the form of very small shoots on the roses was so encouraging......hard to believe that in a few weeks time this area at the back of our house will be awash with colour.  Pink and white roses of 'Sweet Hermione', 'Rose of England' and 'William and Catherine' were planted last year, along with many tulips and alliums.  The box hedging is gradually taking shape and our deck and potager enclosure are beginning to fade to a soft grey.  Our garden is still very much in its infancy and it is hard to believe that four years ago this area was an ugly car park........Our vision spurs us on!
A back breaking day, but a satisfying one.  Made even better by the restorative post gardening glass of wine in the bath!

I hope you are all having a lovely weekend!

  1. Hi Sophia,
Your Saturday was much busier than mine!!
I read with interest about your roses as I'm hoping to plant some climbers at or near our back door. I'll definitely look yours up.
Hope your Sunday is nice and relaxing, and I look forward to seeing how your garden progresses through the seasons.
    Have a lovely day,

  2. Hi Liz,

Thank you for your comment......the roses I mentioned are actually bush roses (David Austin) so no good for climbing near your back door unfortunately! If you find some lovely climbers, I would be interested to hear about them.

Yes, Sunday is turning out to be far more relaxing than yesterday, thank you!

  3. Hello Sophia:) You are soooo ready for the spring! I can already see how beautifully your garden will look soon, with all the flowers and bushes! Love the shed, by the way:)
PS. I would love to do some sort of spring preperation in our garden but, unfortunately, for now we are sinking in some horrid muddy substance here - it is constantly raining :(

  4. Wonderful pictures Sophia. Things are really taking shape if this was a car park foour years ago. Your rose selections sound wonderful. I haven't ventured into the garden much this year mainly admiring from afar. I'll get out this week to see whos waking up.

    1. Thank you so much Paul. Yes, it has been a labour of love turning it from a car park to garden - but very satisfying! Enjoy your garden this week (if this rain/snow stops!) - just heard it could be double figures temperature wise by the end of the week - we live in hope!

  5. Loving the heart wreath on the shed. Lucky you to have dry weather simply miserable and wet here and the garden really needs some tender love and care
