THE MAGIC OF MARRAKESH...

Returning home to the wind and rain of England was hard after six warm, sunny and magical days in Marrakesh.  It was our first visit and I can certainly say that it won't be our last....

Staying at the beautiful Riad Al Massarah, situated within the walls of the Old Medina, we could not have chosen anywhere more perfect.  Our hosts Michael and Michel were absolutely charming and made our stay truly memorable.  The Riad has been beautifully restored by this talented couple and the attention to detail is evident in everything from the gorgeous interiors to the warm, friendly, relaxed but impeccable service.  Nothing was too much trouble, and we were guided to the best restaurants, shops and sights of Marrakesh and the surrounding countryside. Everything was just perfect!

With six beautifully appointed bedrooms positioned around a traditional courtyard, when our family joined us mid week, we almost had the Riad to ourselves.  It was a wonderful and very special venue to celebrate my birthday en famille....

The warm Moroccan winter sunshine brought cooler evenings, and with the fires lit both downstairs in the stunningly decorated sitting room and also in our bedrooms, it was cosy and very relaxing....a home away from home.

The Old Medina is like stepping back in time, with the 'new' city outside these walls being in complete contrast.  We packed a great deal in to our few days and soaked up every magical minute...everywhere was a feast for the senses!  These are just a few of the highlights....

Day one took us to the beautiful 'Jardin Majorelle',  originally designed and owned by Jacques Majorelle and later owned and gifted to Marrakesh by Yves St. Laurant....a green oasis within a desert environment.

We enjoyed stunning and inspirational Moroccan architecture....

The colours and scents of the vibrant markets and souks....

Blue skies and sunshine...

Memorable and delicious family meals...

The magnificent beauty of the Atlas Mountains...

Visits to traditional Berber villages...

Along with overwhelmingly warm and friendly hospitality from everyone that we met....

Thank you to Beautiful Marrakesh, Riad Al Massarah, and my wonderful family, for making my big birthday celebrations so very memorable and special....xxx

If you too have enjoyed the magic of Marrakesh, were there any particular highlights?  I would so love to hear from you.

Wishing you all a very happy Thursday!

  1. Marrakech is beautiful! Marocco has everything: sea, desert, mountains, old cities. Beautiful country. Maybe next time: fes, mhamid, essaouira, chefchouan?
