ENDURING LOVE FOR THE 'WHITE KITCHEN'........

Photo: Sophia Home (Can you spot my dog Kiki?)

Hello and I do hope your week is going well?

Today I have been pondering all things kitchen design related, and it got me thinking about
my own choice in our home, when we designed and built it five years ago.
I admire, and have advised clients over the years, on a diverse range of kitchen designs - from styles in
warm maple and oak, traditionally painted in heritage colours, or cool industrial stainless steel, through to the chic gloss kitchens which have enjoyed such a revival.  However, it is always the 'White Kitchen' that wins my personal vote at home.   I had a white kitchen in our last house and when it came to this one, the white kitchen it was again, unquestionably........and it had to have black honed granite!

The 'White Kitchen' has been 'done' many times before, I know........but its enduring style never seems
to wain.  Maybe it is the freshness of it.......its timeless appeal.......the uplifting clean lines.....and its classic good looks? Whatever it is.......it's for me.

We as a family, like most,  spend much of our time in the kitchen.  It has been intentionally positioned centrally and completely open plan to the rest of the downstairs of the house. As well as our passion to cook, using an Aga Range, it is a place to congregate with family and friends and have a drink and chat - hence the large island unit.  Certainly the 'heart' of our home.

Do you love 'White Kitchens'?
I know I am not alone on this one........

  1. Oh Sophia, what a goergeous kitchen you have! You have done fab job desighning it:) I love your Aga, and I love the floor! Is it tavertine??? Looks lovely:) I wish I had a kitchen like that - unfortunately mine is sooo much smaller with no space for Aga at all, haha. But I did paint my cabinets white last year, and I do like it now much more. So yes, as far as I am concerned it is a big YES for white kitchens:)

    1. Thank you deZeal! Very kind of you to say so. The floor is actually Limestone which has been a great success. We have laid it throughout the downstairs of the house and as it is sealed, it is easy to clean - vital with two dogs!

Glad you are pleased with your repainted white kitchen......

    1. I have to say Liz, that the Aga was a big treat and investment when we built the house. It was my reward to myself for the 18 months spent living and cooking in an old mobile home on site, during the build! Thank you and have a lovely day too.
