ROSES, ROSES, ROSES!
Stepping out in to the garden at this time of year, I am immediately hit by the heady, intoxicating scent roses....
The 'Pink Rose Garden' bordering the kitchen garden is awash with gorgeous, feminine, shades of pink...
Predominantly the gently pale hues of 'Sweet Hermione'....
Mixed with some 'Rose of England' and 'Princess Charlotte'.
I adore all of them...
On the other side of the house, viewed from the end of our kitchen, we have this year, the most spectacular display of 'Iceberg' roses...
Planted within their three box edged squares only four years ago, I can not believe how these beds have suddenly matured...
An explosion of white, which is stunningly illuminated at night.
This beautiful 'Iceberg' variety just flowers and flowers, and in recent milder winters, we have still been able to cut a few blooms for our Christmas lunch table.
Mmm....I think we may have quite a bit of dead heading ahead of us.....but oh so worth it!

'Mr. Sophia Home' and I are fortunate to be slipping away on Sunday for a holiday, to the beautiful Greek island of Corfu. A week of relaxation and good food and wine is planned. ReplyDeleteWow Sophia, you have quite a selection of beautiful roses! I had iceberg roses in South Africa and I've just planted three more here, forgetting how terribly fragile they are, just looking at them their petals fall off! Wishing you a lovely holiday. Sharon
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful garden and display of roses; it is especially lovely to see all the Iceberg roses as I planted three earlier this year and now I am looking forward even more to them establishing themselves. We also have 'Gertrude Jekyll' in our garden which is the first rose to flower, seems fairly prolific and smells amazing, I would definitely recommend that. Emma
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning Sophia! The pruning will certainly keep you busy. I love David Austin roses and their beautiful fragrance ~ especially the climbing variety over an archway. I hope the Princess Charlotte rose will be available in Australia. Wishing you and Mr SH a wonderful holiday.
