It was a very different, but wonderful Christmas for us this year.....Usually we are home, with our double wammy of 'Swenglish' celebrations -  Christmas Eve usually spent quietly with the five of us opening presents by the fire, enjoying our traditional Swedish smorgasbord and then family coming to us for Christmas Day for the full English turkey and trimmings feast.  In spite of all the hard work, I admit that I love it all! Nothing will persuade me and my family, to go anywhere else.  Not that is, unless skiing is on offer!  This year we decided to go out to Val d'Isere in the French Alps, particularly so that we could be with our daughter, who is working as a private chef out there for the winter season.  Although we knew that she would be working hard for her client, just the chance to spend a few hours in the middle of the day all together on the slopes, and in the gorgeous mountain restaurants that this resort has to offer, was wonderful.  A real treat........I don't know what it is about the mountains, but it is where I feel at my happiest.  Beautiful fresh clean air, stunning views like the above photo that I took on Christmas Eve morning, and my family all together having a healthy, fun time with no distractions or stresses of day to day life.  A bit of a temporary mountain 'bubble'....but wonderful.

We stayed in a lovely little hotel called Hotel La Foret which by pure chance was Scandinavian!  Delightfully friendly and helpful staff, simple but clean and cosy rooms, relaxed little bar and ......we were bowled away......the most wonderful food!  It far surpassed our expectations and of course,  we still had a delicious 'Swenglish' Christmas, with our Smorgasbord on Christmas Eve and English traditional feast on Christmas Day.   Thankyou everyone at La Forret for making our Christmas away from home so enjoyable.

Now well and truly in to 2013!
This month I am ignoring the damp, grey weather and expected 'blues' that January is traditional for.  Instead I have embraced the new year with exercise and healthy food (sounds virtuous, but was much needed!), a good dose of pampering and exciting plans for Sophia Wadsworth Interiors and Sophia Home - watch this space!
