The start of a long weekend here in the UK is very welcome, after a busy but productive week.  

With some enjoyable and inspiring design projects on the go at the moment, including a new build interiors commission about to start, and in contrast, a very beautiful Georgian former Priory on the go, recent days have flown as I immerse myself in lighting, layouts, colours and fabrics.  A little break from this included a lovely catch up with an old friend, a visit to the beautiful gardens at Nettlestead Place here in Kent, and a trip to the cinema on Monday night to see The Royal Ballet's fabulous live transmitted performance from Covent Garden, of 'A Winter's Tale'…..stunning in every way, and an absolute highlight of my week!

Talking of 'stunning'…..I wanted to share with you this Friday evening, some beautiful console tables that caught my eye, for your design inspiration.  Console Tables are a particular love of mine.  They make a great statement in a room, and are the perfect way to 'decorate' a narrow entrance hall where little or no furniture is possible.  Not only a practical place to place lighting, they are the perfect place for a display or vignette, creating a unique atmosphere and personality to a room. 

Love the simplicity of this beautiful rustic piece, with just a large wooden bowl of apples and under table baskets making a striking divide 

within a room.

A lovely place to display lovingly clipped topiary….

From the simplest in the smallest of places…

To the grandest…..

They are a favourite piece for me….

A place to display a touch of the outside….inside.

In the most modest through to the most extraordinary of spaces….who can resist a beautiful console?

And lastly... I couldn't resist girls...here's one for those of you with a taste for something a little quirky, and a place to display that shoe collection!

THE 'UPCYCLED' COFFEE TABLE….

Coffee tables…..all shapes and sizes….a key central anchor in a room.

I love mine.  They are where I enjoy a plant or fresh flowers, or bowls of bulbs, as at the moment.  I burn favourite scented candles and keep my favourite design books on them, to be close at hand.  We have a reflective glass topped table in our light bright kitchen sitting area, and a beautiful, large dark wood chest which I have had for many years, in our more formal sitting room.  I am also a fan of beautifully upholstered ottomans…..a favourite with many clients of mine over the years.

For something a little different though, how about  an original 'up cycled' coffee table?
There are some very inventive people out there, who have created a table out of something utilitarian, simple or quirky, making something unique and lovely…..

Love the first picture….definitely one for my 'dream ski chalet' file…..and this one above, displays the stunning grain of a beautiful slab of wood.

Who can believe that these lowly former pallets could be transformed in to something so stylish….

Or that slices of tree trunk stacked could form a rustic, quirky surface….in the right setting?

Reused trunks….doubling up as valuable storage.

Imagine this piece perhaps spent a former life in an architect's or designer's office…or perhaps used to hold beautiful old maps?

Not so sure about this last one?!  You have to take your hat off to its creator though…..this has to be the ultimate in 'up cycling'!

THINKING......MID CENTURY MODERN....SOFAS IN PARTICULAR...

Good morning!  

I do hope your week is going well? I can't believe it is Wednesday already!

Since our lovely party here on Sunday for my mother, I hit the week running with a trip to London first thing on Monday morning, to visit a client's soon to be acquired city 'Pied à Terre'.

She needed a quick decision on the exact layout for this compact, yet stylish, bright south facing space which also had the precious commodity of a large roof terrace off the open plan kitchen/dining/living space....I was so taken with this delightful flat and would have adored to have it myself!  With the agent hovering with keys in hand, we had roughly thirty minutes to measure, assess, and come up with a workable solution which would then dictate our shopping list.....always an enjoyable aspect of my job is to go shopping for others, which feeds a girl's love of shopping, and yet saves her own bank account!

Our main aim was to quickly choose the size and style of sofa for this bijoux space and get it ordered, baring in mind the often several weeks lead time....also, once a key piece like this is chosen, then further furniture, style and colour choices tend to follow easily.

I have worked with this particular lovely client for several years now, having had the privilege of decorating her beautiful country home throughout,  so we work well together and usually make quick, decisive choices together which is always a joy! 

 A modern 'Mid Century' sofa style immediately caught our eye....clean lined, stylish and comfortable, and importantly for the small sitting area in question, the neat low slung proportions were perfect.  It offered the modern look she wanted and yet its retro styling gave the opportunity to mix with traditional pieces in the future.  Isn't it interesting that this enduring design style from the 60's is as popular today as it was back then.....which proves that 'Good style never goes out of fashion'!
